We have a most stimulating line-up of industry experts for you this year! Our ever-popular Keynote Q&A Session will be focused on social media and user-generated content. Our afternoon sessions take a look at tools and techniques to help you find the right content, and share tricks of the trade from experienced shoot producers. Join our guest speaker from Google, Anna Dickson, for a fascinating voyage of discovery.
Keynote Q&A Session 10am–noon
Social media platforms: what you need to know about publishing, sharing and sourcing visual media content
Target audience: All image/footage/art buyers
Our popular annual industry overview returns to examine the issues surrounding publishing and sourcing visual content on social media platforms. Gain a clearer understanding of copyright, permissions and fair use as they apply to publishing and sharing visual media content; and of what the benefits and pitfalls are of licensing or commissioning user-generated content. Our high-powered panel includes two intellectual property attorneys with interestingly different perspectives, and other visual media professionals. The audience is invited to lead the discussion by asking questions and sharing experiences.
Tickets cost $35 in advance or $50 at the door (subject to availability).

- How do memes, GIFs and viral photos play into copyright law, when does it become fair use?
When do bloggers become a public figure and we are entitled to use their photos to illustrate a story on the blogger?
How does social media effect fair use laws? - Do you need permission to publish examples of tweets or FB posts that illustration social media gaffes and/or successes for a marketing textbook? These would be well-known examples that have already been cited in the media (Example: Using a screenshot of Trump's retweet of Alt Right propaganda.)

Our panelists will be demonstrating advanced technology that make finding the right visuals faster, easier and simpler: tools that allow you to search across multiple agencies, search for visually similar images, and track selections from multiple suppliers. What you’ll learn is guaranteed to save you time and frustration!
Marrying Stills and Motion 3–4pm Free
Insights and tips from experienced shoot producers
Target audience: Art producers and assignment commissioners
Inspirational presentations by a panel of hot producers and photo/videographers will be followed by discussion about the how to go about commissioning or producing high quality shoots that combine motion and stills: how to plan, questions to ask, rookie mistakes to avoid, and what to budget for.

Navigating the new world of imagery is trickier than it seems
Target audience: All image buyers and researchers
Each year over one trillion photos are taken, and who knows how many millions of hours of video. So much choice it's overwhelming! But still, frustratingly little is usable. Anna Dickson discusses how, at Google and Huffington Post, she’s lead the challenge to source relevant, quality images in volume to tight deadlines.
How do I register for a session?
First, register for the image expo. At the last stage you will see an option to buy tickets (for yourself and colleagues) for the Keynote Q&A Session. There is no need to register for other sessions, which are free.
Owing to limited space, the expo and sessions are strictly limited to professional image/footage/art buyers and researchers. Please do not try to register if you are a photographer or student.
How do I submit a question for the Keynote Q&A Session?
When you register (see above), you will see a box at the bottom of the last page to enter your question. You can add or change your question later by clicking on the link in your registration confirmation email or by going back into the registration system and clicking on the button ‘Register for session.’
Questions submitted in advance are more likely to be answered.

Nancy Wolff, a partner at Cowan DeBaets Abrahams & Sheppard LLP in New York City and DMLA Counsel, specializes in copyright, trademark, rights of privacy/publicity and digital media law. Nancy offers full legal support to a wide range of traditional and digital media clients. She is currently Vice President of the Copyright Society of the USA and Co-Chair of the ABA subcommittee on Copyright Legislation. She is a frequent speaker throughout the United States and Europe on copyright, technology and licensing. In 2007 she published her book entitled The Professional Photographer’s Legal Handbook with Allworth Press and PACA (DMLA). She was awarded the 2007 ASPP Picture Professional of the Year.
Robert Stein is the leader of Pryor Cashman’s Publishing practice and a member of the firm’s Media & Entertainment and Intellectual Property Groups. He has an insider’s perspective gained from 15 years working in the legal departments of some of the world’s leading media and publishing companies. Bob protects filmmakers, writers, literary agents, and publishers of books, e-books and comic books from threats posed by defamation, violations of the rights of privacy and publicity and copyright infringement. He is AV Preeminent peer review rated, Martindale-Hubbell’s highest peer recognition for ethical standards and legal ability.
Bevan Thomas is co-founder and commercial director of Newsflare, a London-based agency in the user-generated video market. In the last couple of years Newsflare has emerged as one of the leading players in this fast growing space, selling to publishers and broadcasters in 28 countries. Originally from New Zealand, Bevan worked for ACP Media (now Bauer) Australasia’s largest publishing group. Arriving in the UK in 2008 Bevan worked for London-based creative agency Clear until he left to set up Newsflare.
Michael Chauliac is Chief Business Officer at EyeEm, a technology company that uses artificial intelligence to empower a new generation of photographers and reinvent the way brands license authentic images. Before joining EyeEm, Michael got a headstart into startups as CMO of design company, Poppin. Previously, Michael served as Vice President of Digital Marketing at the intimates and lifestyle institution, Victoria’s Secret, where he led the brand’s mobile-first strategy and oversaw customer acquisition and retention for the direct division.

Geoff Cannon is Executive VP of Masterfile and President of DMLA, the Digital Media Licensing Association. With 35 years of experience in publishing, creative services, international sales and marketing management, Geoff joined Masterfile in 2001. He directs North American sales and business development, as well as managing international affiliations. Before being elected to President of DMLA earlier this year, he served for four years on the Executive Board.

Abbie Enock is CEO of Capture, a leading content management specialist and service provider to some of the world’s most famous brands. Launched in 2000, Capture grew out of a need to ingest, tag, manage, market and sell contributors’ images at the travel photo agency she started in the 90s. Before that Abbie was an international photojournalist.
Andrew Rowat is Co-Founder and CEO of Haystack.im as well as award-winning travel photographer with over a decade of industry experience. His work has appeared in the New York Times, Vanity Fair, New Yorker, Travel + Leisure, and Bon Appetit. He is a PDN30 winner who lived in China for seven years and New York for the last six. He started Haystack to bring premium licensable content under one search umbrella by partnering with all of the best stock photo agencies in the world.
Doug Dawirs is Technology Advisor to DMLA (Digital Media Licensing Association) with over 30 years experience as an award-winning software developer, digital asset management specialist, UI designer, project manager, and technology evangelist. He is the author of a host of apps and services including Extensis Portfolio, DMLAsearch (multi-agency stock image index), Savor Food (iPhone app), Eyeist.com (online photo review site), and the PLUS Registry.
Hila Dar is Senior Director of Product at Shutterstock, responsible for a new division at the company focused on customer-centric workflow tools, including the deployment of next-generation search technology using advanced computer vision. Prior to Shutterstock, Hila managed the paid distribution product offering at Outbrain, lead product for ESPN mobile apps, and advanced Newsweek into the mobile and digital worlds.

Paul Melcher is a strategic consultant for visual tech startups, an advisor, and founder of Kaptur Magazine – the first online publication solely devoted to the visual tech industry. He brings more than 20 years of experience in photo licensing, technology breakthrough and leadership roles for photography companies, including Stipple, Rex Features, Digital Railroad, Corbis, ImageDirect, Zymmetrical and PictureGroup. Paul has been named by American Photo one of the 100 most influential individuals in American photography.

Tyron Barrington is a fashion producer and casting director, whose clients include Avon mark., Revlon, Levi’s, Target, L’Oréal, OshKosh B’Gosh, Lauren Conrad, Ashley Greene (Twilight), and Lucy Hales (Pretty Little Liars). As a former top model agent, he managed the careers of some of the world’s leading top fashion models and celebrities including Matthew Fox (Lost), Tyson Beckford (Ralph Lauren) and Emma Heming-Willis. He’s also worked on TV shows such as Bravo’s Double Exposure, and featured on ABC Nightline.
Erica Chadwick is, with Joe Lombardo, a creative and managing partner of ETC Creative, a boutique agency that represents creative visionaries in photography, video, VFX and music supervison. With offices in New York and Chicago, they pair artists with ad agencies, design firms and corporations to create solid branding for their clients.
Darryl Estrine is an advertising creative director, filmmaker, photographer, author, and co-founder of Content Machine, which offers a combination of creative and production services. For more than 25 years, he has been photographing the famous and infamous for Esquire, Forbes, Vanity Fair, and ESPN, as well as working with advertising clients from Microsoft to Motorola. In 2010 Darryl created a cookbook, Harvest to Heat: Cooking with America’s Best Chefs, Farmers and Artisans, which prompted commissions from the likes of Le Creuset and Ford Motors, leading to the founding of Content Machine.
Alfredo Fernandez has over 20 years in the photography industry, including lighting tech, photo assistant, production, management, editing and accounting. He works closely with clients and photographers on each assignment to create the image they have conceptualized. Alfredo’s Clients have included ABC Television, Coca Cola, Conde Nast, Coors, Forbes, Mercedes Benz, NBA, Nike, Ralph Lauren and Walt Disney Pictures.

Sheri Radel Rosenberg is a freelance art producer, trend forecaster and talent spotter. She recently started a new venture under the Maven name, to bring together talent and brands to produce projects of cultural relevance and value. Sheri looks for the unexpected as well as tried and true talent who click with a brand and a campaign. Sheri has freelanced on projects for Nike, VW, Microsoft, Google and Converse. She worked at CP+B for 7 years, and was head of Art Buying at Deutsch New York. She also writes a blog about all things fashion and inspiration.

Anna Dickson is Photo Lead for the Content and Community team at Google, with a focus on coverage, quality and community. Prior to that, Anna has managed photo departments at The Wall Street Journal and Huffington Post. During her time at The Huffington Post, Anna managed @Huffingtonpost on Instagram, @RuffPost and others. She also created partnerships with various photo communities including EyeEm, VSCO, 500px and Flickr. While at The Wall Street Journal, Anna launched the @WSJOffDuty & @WSJRealEstate Instagram accounts and worked to streamline the photo workflow within the newsroom through search and crop tools. She’s worked closely with product teams at iHeartMedia, AOL and The Wall Street Journal to create products such as Asset Management Systems, Integrated CMS image search and more.
